Community Fridge

In September 2019, Foodshare Kerry launched Kerry’s first-ever Community Fridge at St Brigid’s Family Resource Centre in Hawley Park, Tralee. This initiative, supported by Kerry County Council’s Community Enhancement Fund, was a collaborative effort with St Brigid’s to address food waste and food poverty in the community.

The Community Fridge operates 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, providing a space where residents and businesses can donate surplus food, and anyone in the community can access - no questions asked. It’s a simple, effective way to reduce waste while supporting people experiencing food insecurity.

Foodshare Kerry encourages local food businesses across Tralee and beyond to get involved, highlighting the power of community collaboration in building a more sustainable and inclusive future.

The European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Food & Basic Material Support

The European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Food & Basic Material Support helps support people take their first steps out of poverty and social exclusion.

90% of the funding comes from the EU with the balance of funding coming from the Irish Exchequer. The Department of Social Protection manages this programme in Ireland.

Our charity benefits from food assistance. The programme provides non-perishable food via their charity partners to families and individuals in need. Food supplied consist of breakfast cereals, rice, pasta and pasta sauce, soups, canned fish, jam, tea, coffee, sugar, and canned vegetables and fruit. The food items are easy to transport and store.

Our charity also benefits from material assistance under the above programme. School stationery kits are provided to children who are being supported by ESF+ food support.
