How FSK works
Foodshare Kerry provides an invaluable link between producers of surplus food and charities that specialise in combating food poverty. We act as a foodbank and supply depot where the produce we collect is stored, sorted, graded and distributed to front line agencies such as the St Vincent de Paul.
Our volunteer members deal with all types of food and grocery products, including non-perishable, fresh and frozen foods. Non-food items such as paper products, soap, and personal hygiene items are also often supplied to us.
We pick-up from the suppliers premises at a time that suits them and can process full or part pallets of slightly damaged, short-dated or surplus stock. We are fully indemnified, accepting responsibility for the produce once we’ve taken ownership of it.
It’s a win-win situation for all involved as businesses reduce their waste removal costs, charities are provided with a regular supply of foodstuff and large quantities of unnecessary waste is diverted from landfill.
On top of that we’d like to think Foodshare Kerry provides companies and individuals around the county with a practical outlet in which to express solidarity with their local communities
